Collecting Tips

These are tips to help you start and make your collection better.


Starting your gallery:
First of all to start your gallery, you need to open up a gallery. You can do that by going here and then paying the nps it costs to open up and start a gallery. You will more than likely need to upgrade it to fit your collection in as time progresses.


Getting Items:
You should start of with some of the cheaper items for your gallery. Check your Safety Deposit Box to see if you have stuffed any items in there that might match your gallery theme. If you are able to restock, the cheapest way to get items would be to restock them from the actual neopian shops. However if this is not an option for you, you will have to buy them from the Shop Wizard, Trading Post, or Auctions. Surf around the site a bunch and who knows, you may even get an item you need in a random event :)


Shop Around:
If you see an item for your collection in a shop that you would like very much, don't buy it right away! You might be able to get it somewhere else for much less! Check the Shop Wizard, Trades and Auctions, to make sure you aren't overpaying for your item.


Set Goals:
Once you have collected most of the cheaper items in your collection, it makes it easier to set goals on what items you are going to buy next. Try to complete smaller mini collections if you are collecting something huge like plushie, and then save up until you can reach your goal.


Set Limits:
Be sure to set a limit as to how much you will spend on an item, if you don't do this you will find yourself splurging and spending way more than you intended on something. It is also nice to set a limit of what amount of nps you won't let your nps drop below. That way you always have some nps, it really helps to keep yourself balanced, and also you never know when you will find the deal of a lifetime on an item you have been wanting, yet you have no nps to buy it cause you just spent them on another item that you didn't even want as bad :P


Uniqueness:
With so many people on Neopets, there are bound to be A LOT of galleries out there, and if you are going for Gallery Spotlight, or just want your gallery to stand out from the rest, it is going to have to be unique. I'll list three of the easiest ways to make your gallery stand out. First off, you could choose something totally random that no-one else would have thought of, like you could have every one syllable item in there or something else to that effect. Another way is to have a generic theme, but add a lot of items that link to that theme, but not directly. Say you did a Kau Themed gallery; you could add grass items, black and white items, hay items etc. Lastly, you could just not have a theme and throw anything that catches your eye in there. A lot of people do this, but with everyone's unique tastes, yours is bound to be different.


Layout:
If you want to make your gallery look more spectacular, then get a spiffy layout for it. If you don't know how to do all that you can get a premade layout from this website. Or you could ask someone who makes custom layouts to make a layout for you!
