It’s still early days in the Altador Cup tournament and there have already been interesting match-ups. SunnyNeo brings you a report on Day 4 (May 29th) where redemptions are starting to show for some teams…

There were only two clean-sweeps yesterday and one of those was within the Team Mystery Island versus Team Faerieland matches. The Islanders needed a slight statistics boost and this match provided that lift. Team Faerieland are not letting the loss dampen their hopes, they have already shown significant improvements, it’s just maintaining an adequate standard that maybe their biggest challenge. The Islanders are pleased with the result and feel ready for the next big match.

The other sweep occurred during the Team Brightvale versus Team Altador game. The scholars squared up with the gladiators and proved that the pen is mightier than the sword. King Hagan of Brightvale is now satisfied his team swept the colossseum with the namesakes of the tournament. “Ha! I knew that forcing them to study would motivate them to do better this year. I’m so clever!” He laughed victoriously at his cunning. King Altador of… Altador (naturally) congratulates the Brightvalians for stepping up their game this year. He also sent a personal letter to his team to motivate them some more in their next head-to-head.

There was a massive sigh of relief exhaled when Team Shenkuu finished their match against Team Moltara yesterday and emerged as the overall winners. The Moltarans have not yet managed to find their footing in the ranks but there maybe hope for them yet. Defender Tulah Kisner says; “This really isn’t how we expected to begin the season! Maybe we need to rethink our tactics? Despondant? Yes. Beaten? No.” Shenkuu’s defeat against Team Lost Desert the other day left many anxious that they would be too disheartened to excel in the next few matches, and fears of an injury made fans worry about performance levels. Captain Mirsha Grelinek quickly dispelled those fears; “Losing to Lost Desert does not mark an end to us – it sparks a beginning and emerging victorious against Team Moltara is the first step to a better outcome. And yes, there was an injury the other day but we received medical clearance. No need to fret.” The Steampunk Squad are now considering hiring a new manager. The Moltarans refuse to give-in and are content with the Draw in Slushie Slinger, despite losing the other three games.

Team Meridell had their second iconic match in a row yesterday. First they were against Brightvale on Day 3 and yesterday they went against their nemesis, Darigan Citadel. Fiorina of Meridell seemed exasperated. “I swear the Altador Cup Committee did this on purpose! Anything for a good media story… honestly!” The Darigans seized wins in Yooyuball, Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown. They tied in Slushie Slinger, though. Captain Layton Vickles sniggered; “Those knights have nothing on us! It’ll take a lot more than small talk to get us quaking.” King Skarl was unimpressed  and snapped at his squad. “We didn’t lose a WAR to them but you lose a SPORTING TOURNAMENT to them?! You’re lucky I don’t throw you in the dungeons!” Lord Darigan told King Skarl to stop being melodramatic and take the loss like a grown up. Captain “Wizard” Windelle from Meridell says, “There’s a lot more conflict between our leaders than our Yooyuball teams! I’m glad this match is over, Team Darigan won’t win in the Second Round!”

Another good day for the Rooligans as Team Roo Island took an overall win yesterday against Team Haunted Woods. They won all of the support games and gained a Draw in Yooyuball. This is really starting to look like Team Roo Island’s chance of a comeback! The Haunted Woods seem to be heading towards an early grave but we never know when they’ll start spellbinding their opponents. Maybe getting rid of Autrey Fulse was a bad move?

Team Tyrannia remain champions of the support games by taking wins in Slushie Slinger, Make Some Noise and Shootout Showdown. Team Kiko Lake won Yooyuball and seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves this year. If they can manage a balance between Yooyuball and the support games the Kikos might be able to strengthen their position. The Tyrannians seem to be comfortable being masters of the support games.

Ah, Team Virtupets versus Team Kreludor, enemies outside of the tournament for eons. This face-off gained some intriguing outcomes as Kreludor seem to be one of the leading teams but Virtupets are no longer the underdogs they used to be. Team Kreludor are one of the strongest competitors at the moment but were unable to sweep the Virtupets squad. Dr. Sloth’s favourites seized an outstanding win in Yooyuball and Drew in Shootout Showdown. Virtupets’ Forward player XL Striker 3.8 is still Top Goal Scorer. The Kreludorks blasted their opponents to make way for a win in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. Captain Derlyn Fonnet gasped; “I’m shocked at our Yooyuball defeat! Virtupets have really started to show their true colours.” It just goes to show that small teams can and will strike when you least expect it.

On Day 3, Team Lost Desert took down Second Place Team Shenkuu of Altador Cup IV, and yesterday they stampeded across ACIV’s First Place winners Team Krawk Island in their bid to take home the gold! The pirates parried for a Draw in Shootout Showdown to avoid being swept by the desert folk. “Dasher” Soley says that old age has not affected his Yooyuball skills, but he won’t deny that being pulled out of retirement wasn’t a move that he expected to happen. “’Twas a bit uncalled for.” Dasher replied, shaking his head ruefully. “But I could ne’er abandon me crew when they needed me back – so here I am! Cursed or not.” Team Lost Desert have very good prospects for this year and if they maintain this standard they could go far.

And last but not least we come to the Team Terror Mountain versus Team Maraqua match, which ended in an overall win for Team Maraqua. “Yeah we could have done better,” Captain Prytariel  commented on behalf of Terror Mountain, “but the fans managed a Draw in Slushie Slinger and a win in Shootout Showdown was achieved so it’s something.” The Maraquans had the last laugh though as they won Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. Captain Elon Hughlis said; “Hey, the fans love me! What can I say? Ideally I would have liked a clean-sweep but what can ya do?”
