Chapter 19: Epilogue
The current catastrophe may be over, but it’s true architects are only just getting started…
Orion
Time to rise and shine!
Orion
What...what is happening?!
Orion
Relax, it's just me.
Orion
But...I'm awake. You--you've never talked to me like this before.
Orion
I know! Our bond has really grown. I'm so happy for us!
Orion
Also... It's not over.
Orion
What do you mean it's not over?
Orion
Come on, isn't it obvious? The story isn't over yet. There's some pretty big stuff you're missing, and I'm here to show it to you. Just like old times!
Orion
I've been trying to forget old times...
Orion
Rude. I thought we had a great time together.
Orion
What part of the sleepless nights and premonitions of great horrors seemed fun to you?
Orion
The part where they helped save the world.
Orion
...But you say there's more.
Orion
Oh ya! Haven't you noticed that crack in the sky remains, even after those tone-deaf upstarts bit the dust?
Orion
That means something, or someone, is still meddling in affairs beyond their understanding.
Orion
However, despite our new bond, I still don't have enough power to show you the full picture quite yet.
Orion
We're going to need to find another of my anchors.
Orion
Anchors?
Orion
Yeah, like the stone tablet you found on Terror Mountain. If we can find more, then my connection will grow stronger.
Orion
Okay... So where can we find them?
Orion
Yaaaa, I don't know.
Orion
What? Why not?
Orion
Well, the whole reason I spread them out in the first place was to keep them out of the wrong hands. And unfortunately, those hands have many ways of getting even the likes of me to talk.
Orion
So, I've set up quite a few safeguards. One of which is hiding the secrets tied to them from every living--and non-living--soul. Which includes myself.
Orion
But no need to fret. Lovely, intelligent me already left a hint at where we need to go for the next anchor.
Orion
You did?
Orion
Yup! When you found that stone tablet of me in Terror Mountain--
Orion
Wait, that was you?
Orion
It wasn't an exact likeness by any means, but the art of well, art, hadn't been around for long, so you have to give them some credit.
Orion
But as I was saying, when you pieced the tablet back together, it was like it unlocked something within me. It took a while for me to connect the dots, but the next anchor must be with an old friend of mine!
Orion
Okay, who?
Orion
She's too ancient for a name you would recognise, but she resides in what some call the Lair of the Beast.
Orion
What? You can't expect me to venture there? Practically no one has entered that den and lived to speak of it!
Orion
Ah, as I would expect from her. She was always a fierce one. If I requested her to guard something of mine, though, I'm positive she would protect it with her life.
Orion
Okay, so if we go there, she won't attack?
Orion
Hmm, if I were in my corporeal form...
Orion
No, she'd still probably try to eat me. So she'd most certainly gobble you up.
Orion
However, I used to be able to play her a song. If we can replicate that, it may just calm her long enough to retrieve the anchor.
Orion
Great, so you can just teach me the chords... Or I guess maybe play it yourself with my hands?
Orion
Sadly, neither of those things will work just yet. My lyre first needs a bit of a makeover, or perhaps an upgrade is a better word for it. We'll need to find the Strings of the Four Waves and reattach them before it will sound anything like how I used to play.
Orion
And how do we find those...
Orion
I'm not entirely certain. I don't even recall taking them off, to be honest, and they were a real hassle to acquire in the first place, so I wouldn't have done so carelessly. So, I imagine it's part of the secrets I hid deep within my own subconscious.
Orion
Then what do you expect me to do?
Orion
I'm so glad you asked! You see, there's more than one reason why I've inhabited you of all people.
Orion
...which is?
Orion
Your family!
Orion
My--my family? We don't... we don't really talk anymore.
Orion
That doesn't change the fact that you come from a long line of powerful fortune tellers and enchanters.
Orion
I need you and your cards to read me.
Orion
Read you? But you're... me?
Orion
Yes, that does complicate things, but it's the best shot we've got for the time being. While I have hidden the secrets even from myself, they are still a part of me, deep down. So I must have known that eventually someone would come along with the power to pull them out.
Orion
I'm really not that powerful.
Orion
That doesn't matter, not with your heritage.
Orion
If you can pull even the slightest hint from within my subconscious, I should be able to recall how to tame each string.
Orion
Tame?
Orion
Yes, they each hold tremendous power and require certain rituals to quell them long enough to put on the lyre. If you can pull those rituals from within me, I should be able to connect with their power once they are completed and point you towards their locations.
Orion
Use your cards to read me. Try as many times as you need; we just need four successful reads to get started!
