Theories

Here’s some of our unhinged theories for this plot. These theories are pure speculation (or comedic) based on previous facts, teasers, and discoveries so there could be some spoilers, but probably not. We hope you enjoy these theories, but we must apologise in advance if it causes you to spiral down a rabbit hole.

Orion

1. Orion is not as innocent as he may seem. Is it a coincidence that the moment he was introduced in 2023 there were strange things going on? Why is Orion the only one having these visions? Orion helped with the Festival of Neggs in 2023 and gained the trust of the other faeries, so is it possible that his “visions” are all fabricated to keep the faeries (especially Queen Fyora) distracted and running in circles to allow dark forces to rule over Neopia?
   
   → Orion’s name originates from Greek origin and was a hunter, so he might’ve been hired by someone to hunt faeries by leading them astray. When the time is right, he'll use his tarot cards to steal their magic or trap them in a bottle.
2. Orion’s tarot cards (accidentally or intentionally) activated some evil dark magic when he tried to analyze the objects during the Festival of Neggs. When he did this, the tarot cards mutated the Bython's DNA, when they become infected with the curse they become powerful giant tentacle demons.
   • After the Festival of Neggs in 2024, ANOTHER Petpet was discovered with Orion's involvement! Could this one also eventually evolve into a demonic creature?
   • Perhaps Petpets have some underlying magic/energy that interferes with Orion's visions or lyre?
3. Did Orion steal the REAL mysterious objects during the Festival of Neggs? Mira did not trust Orion to get close to the objects, so he used his tarot cards to examine it. But we shouldn’t blindly trust Orion because he might have used a secret tarot card to swap the mysterious object with a similar looking object that contained Bythons. What was a negg-like object, with Bythons inside, doing out in deep space? Orion might’ve deemed the real object to be very valuable for his family and wants to repair his family ties. His guilt builds up over time believing he risked Neopia and begins having nightmares, which he believes are visions, and becomes a reality when his tarot cards and the faeries’ magic try to analyze these “visions.”
4. Orion's tarot cards are suspicious and could predict the sequence of future events.
5. Starting on January 1st, 2024, TNT have been releasing a constellation every month on social media! The second one pictured Orion, and of course Orion is also a constellation. Orion's family were well known in the business of the stars and tarot cards. So he and his family might be astrologists and might have the capability of harnessing that power to perform magic, perhaps even dark magic.
6. Orion's visual appearance changed since his introduction. His watch pointed at 3:35 (or 8:25 when flipped) during the Advent Calendar and then pointed to 10:35 (or 2:25 when flipped) during this year's festival of neggs. Could this time foreshadow future dates? See more details.
   • Could the crest/shield/symbol on Orion's handkerchief be a symbol for a secretive and malicious group run by the dark faeries? It might also just be his family's coat of arms.
   • Orion lost his gold ring when he's seen again during the advent calendar, it might be a magical ring, and when worn his visions disappear.

Faeries

1. Baelia (the Grey Faerie) is the secretive mastermind behind this. All she wants is to have her wings back and is willing to do anything to feel happy again. Due to her lack of magic, Baelia was ridiculed by the other faeries and was casted aside. Like the darkness making a promise with Vira, Baelia was promised to have her wings back if she worked with the Dark Faeries to spread a curse. Baelia has nothing more to lose and is ready for everyone to suffer and understand what she’s dealt with.
2. Queen Fyora is conspiring to work with the dark faeries by bringing chaos across Neopia because she has a secret plan to remove Kiko Lake after their Altador Cup team stole, err, forced her to donate some of her valuable goodies. (There is no proof nor logic behind this, I just think everyone wants Kiko Lake to be drained for stealing our stuff 😡)
3. The Grey Faerie’s diary mentions she met a friend, it could be that mysterious Dark Faerie or Vira. It’s possible that they placed a curse on her diary, whatever she writes becomes a reality. If she writes that she felt gloomy, then others will become gloomy or grey.
4. The unknown Dark Faerie is Jhudora’s long lost twin. She’s upset that Jhudora left the other dark faeries behind and is seeking revenge.
5. Jhudora's been living a double life, secretly spying on Neopia and the other faeries for many years. Pretending to be “nice,” she’s been reporting back secrets about the other faeries and stealing their magic to allow the dark faeries to invade and rule over Neopia.
6. All faeries turn grey and lose their magic causing Neopia to get destroyed by that strange tentacle monster. Dr. Sloth has a change of heart and saves the remaining Neopians by shuttling everyone to a new planet. He tricks Queen Fyora and steals her remaining powers, allowing him to be the most powerful being in the entire universe. The only purpose of Neopia is to serve Dr. Sloth.

Other

1. TNT has secretly been developing time travel technology so we could live in the year 2007 and play Neopets all day again.
2. With the “Time Travel Negg” in the Festival of Neggs, Queen Fyora might sacrifice her life, using up all her magic to transport Nyx back in time. But Fyora never did this before, so Nyx ends up back before Xandra casted her spell that caused Faerieland to crash into ruins. Nyx then defeats Xandra and saves Faerieland but it ends up ripping the fabric of time, creating a second parallel Neopian universe.
   • Alternatively, TNT mentioned in the editorial they'd consider a "time travel" mechanism for players to enjoy previous plots. Could this time travel negg foreshadow/hint we might encounter time travel in the plot, perhaps integrated into a previous plot? But could this not affect the timeline and negatively impact future/current events if the plot needs to travel back in time for a previous plot?
3. Nyx’s outfit has the Virtupets logo, made a discovery that Dr. Sloth was working with the dark faeries to make Neopia grey and then had to flee for her life. Nyx ended up getting lost in space but when her Petpet fixes her equipment, it sends a signal back to Dr. Sloth’s army. When someone was sent to find her, they become infected with the strange purple curse, and spreads throughout Neopia.
4. During the Advent Calendar in 2022, Queen Fyora appears remorseful and placing flowers at Xandra's stone statue. Someone might revive Xandra to redeem herself and stop the dark faerie and Vira. Alternatively, Queen Fyora might turn herself into stone and having someone hide her stone statue to prevent anyone or something from obtaining her magic.
5. From the advent calendar comics, Nyx is somewhere in space. It's unknown whether it's a new planet in deep space or if they're on the other side of Kreludor. What's on the other side of the moon?
